This module equips journalism students with essential knowledge about artificial intelligence’s role in detecting disinformation. Through a structured curriculum, participants will explore AI’s impact on journalism, propaganda, and media landscapes. They will gain insights into the nature of disinformative narratives, the ethical challenges of AI in fact-checking, and the role of fact-checking platforms in countering misinformation.
The course introduces the Throughput-Model, a framework for understanding disinformation’s sources, intermediaries, and audiences. It also provides real-world case studies, analysing disinformation during major political and social events such as the European elections and the war of aggression of Russia against Ukraine.
Students will also examine regulatory efforts and future AI developments while learning practical strategies to verify information effectively. By the end, they will have the skills to critically assess AI-driven narratives, utilize fact-checking tools, and contribute to ethical journalism in a digitalized media environment.
